What a successful week we’ve had. Not only have we signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Animal Welfare with the World Veterinary Association (WVA) at their recent Congress in Prague; but we’ve also had some interesting discussions and pick up on our newly improved Concepts in Animal Welfare syllabus tool.

WSPA CEO, Mike Baker and WVA President, Dr Faouzi Kechrid signed the landmark MOU on Animal Welfare at the Global Seminar on Animal Welfare issues.

During the last 12 months, we have been collaborating with the WVA in order to promote animal welfare globally, recognising that animal health, animal welfare and public health are strongly linked.

The MOU recognises these links and lays out WSPA’s plan to engage vets and to support veterinary education in welfare, and in the practicalities of rabies control and disaster management.WSPA CEO, Mike Baker says:

“It was a proud moment for the World Society for the Protection of Animals to sign this Memorandum of Understanding with the World Veterinary Association- a leading influencer of global animal welfare policy and practice. These talks and this MOU are key to placing WSPA at the top table discussions that will raise awareness of animal protection issues globally.”

The successful signing came as interest peaked at our booth at the Congress, where we were promoting the Concepts in Animal Welfare syllabus, a major teaching tool for veterinary institutions to ensure that animal welfare science and theory is a core discipline for all new vets in tertiary education.
