Haiti: A Six Month Update
Thanks to the generous donations from WSPA supporters, our disaster management team – as part of the Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti (ARCH) – has made great strides in providing disaster relief to the animals and people of Haiti during the past six months.

Orissa disaster relief operation: update
WSPA’s Delhi-based emergency field team remain in Orissa State, working hard to provide emergency food, shelter, water and veterinary first aid to animals affected by the tornado which hit at the end of March.

Animal aid reaches Haiti
WSPA and the ARCH team arrived in Haiti over the weekend, to aid animals affected by the devastating earthquake. The team is also helping to work up an extensive long-term plan which includes options for creating and improving infrastructure for veterinary care, a large-scale vaccination program and animal population control services.

WSPA Disaster Relief - UPDATE

Emergency relief for Bihar’s flood-stricken animals
Several villages in Bihar’s Sitamarhi district were also affected by flood water – families were forced to abandon their homes and relocate to high ground in order to save both human and animal lives.

Disaster drill shows preparation pays
On Saturday 25 September, all the local agencies that would normally be involved in disaster relief operations – the Red Cross, Servicio Nacional de Salud Animal (SENASA, the government agency responsible for the welfare of animals), the police and civil defence – were joined by a WSPA team and a veterinary emergency response unit (VERU) in the drill.

Myanmar's parallel disaster
Based on UN and Myanmar government rapid assessment figures, WSPA estimates that as many as 48 million animals may have been wiped out by the cyclone – a figure equivalent to the entire human population of the country.

WSPA in Myanmar: vets gain access to animals in need
A WSPA disaster assessment and response (DART) team today received permission to enter Myanmar and begin delivering aid to the animals that communities rely on so heavily.
