October 2008: The Federation of Asian Veterinary Associations (FAVA) has announced support for theUniversal Declaration on Animal Welfare at the 15th Congress of the Federation of Asian Veterinary Associations, FAVA-OIE (World Organisation for Animal Health) Joint Symposium.
They join the World Veterinary Association and regional and national veterinary associations – including Australia, Chile, Colombia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Thailand and the UK – in signing up to the principle of a Universal Declaration.
"It is very pleasing that FAVA, as part of the global veterinary profession, has given its support for the Universal Declaration" said Dr Jim Edwards, FAVA President. "The veterinary profession is committed to animal welfare and takes very seriously its obligation to society for the professional management and assurance of animal welfare."
In supporting a Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare, FAVA hopes to encourage both governments and animal welfare organizations that are working to establish the importance of animal welfare.
